Position Summary: A postdoctoral position is available at the Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale, Arizona. This newly established and expanding research laboratory aims to investigate neural mechanisms of cephalic pain related to episodic and chronic migraine using rodent models. The emphasis of the laboratory is on translationally relevant preclinical research and this is achieved through a vibrant collaboration with headache neurologists at the Mayo clinic. The projects involve a range of behavioral, genetic and molecular biology approaches. The main experimental techniques include rodent surgeries and induction of experimental pain models, pain behavioral testing including the use of operant responding, viral vectors, immunohistochemistry, microscopy, ELISA and other molecular techniques. The applicant will interact with students and technical staff, analyze data, prepare manuscripts and grant proposals.

The candidate must have a Ph.D. degree in pharmacology, neuroscience or a related discipline. Experience with at least some of the techniques referred above is required, additionally, experience with mouse genetic models, and optogenetic and chemogenetic approaches is a plus. The applicant should have good oral and written scientific communication skills, good work ethic, self-motivation and the ability to work independently as well as in a team.

Responsibilities: A Research Fellow at Mayo Clinic is a temporary position intended to provide training and education in research. Individuals will train in the research program of a Mayo Clinic principal investigator. Qualified individuals will demonstrate the potential for research as evidenced by their training and peer-reviewed publications and should become competitive for national research grants. Proof of English proficiency is required for J-1 Short-Term Scholars, Research Scholars, Professors, Specialists, and Student Interns sponsored by Mayo Clinic. 800146; J2WRTP

Qualifications: Must have a Ph.D. in pharmacology, neuroscience or a related discipline. Research Fellow is appropriate for individuals who have completed no more than one prior postdoctoral fellowship, at Mayo Clinic or elsewhere.
