Position Summary: The laboratory of Dr. Terry Burns in the Department of Neurologic Surgery at Mayo Clinic Rochester, is seeking a post-doctoral fellow with interests in translational neuro-regeneration and neuro-oncology. Dr. Burns’ work seeks to pair cutting edge basic science strategies with neurosurgical access to the human brain in order to expedite the translation of neuroregenerative therapies. Efforts span collaborations with several clinical and basic science departments throughout the Mayo system as well as nationally and internationally to advance translation of therapies for human neurological diseases.

Those with prior postdoctoral experience may be considered for a Senior Research Fellow or Research Associate if time in position(s) held elsewhere and accomplishments meet appointment guidelines.

Responsibilities: A Research Fellow at Mayo Clinic is a temporary position intended to provide training and education in research. Individuals will train in the research program of a Mayo Clinic principal investigator. Qualified individuals will demonstrate the potential for research as evidenced by their training and peer-reviewed publications and should become competitive for national research grants. Proof of English proficiency is required for J-1 Short-Term Scholars, Research Scholars, Professors, Specialists, and Student Interns sponsored by Mayo Clinic. 800146; J2WRTP

Qualifications: Must have a Ph.D., M.D., or equivalent doctoral degree in a field deemed relevant by the program. Research Fellow is appropriate for individuals who have completed no more than one prior postdoctoral fellowship, at Mayo Clinic or elsewhere. Those with prior postdoctoral experience may be considered for a Senior Research Fellow or Research Associate if time in position(s) held elsewhere and accomplishments meet appointment guidelines.

    • Original or notarized copy of diploma or final transcript issued by school (English translation required).

Additional Qualifications: Candidates for this post-doctoral position must have an MD or PhD in a relevant neurological or biomedical field, with substantial prior research experience as evidenced by prior publications, and outstanding personal, communication, and organizational skills, applicable to individual and team efforts. Valuable skills may include experience in cell culture, animal surgery, bioinformatics, histology and confocal microscopy.
