Position Summary: Research Fellow positions are available on the Mayo Clinic Nephrology Training Grant, funded by the National Institutes of Health through NIDDK. The objective of this 2-year program, based within the top-rated Nephrology Division in the United States, is to prepare biomedical and clinical scientists for independent investigative careers in academic nephrology and basic renal sciences. Fellows will acquire an in-depth education in renal physiology and/or pathophysiology and skills in the appropriate basic or applied sciences. Clinical and bench research are both available.

Faculty are drawn from the Nephrology Research Unit and other allied Divisions and Departments at Mayo Clinic College of Medicine in Rochester, MN, including Medical Physics, Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Physiology and Biomedical Engineering, Immunology, Pharmacology, and Health Sciences Research. Areas of excellence available to Research Fellows include chronic kidney disease, polycystic kidney disease, urinary stone disease, hypertension, renal physiology, transplant nephrology and CT imaging. Research Fellows will select an individual faculty mentor in their area of study who will be responsible for day-to-day supervision and development of an appropriate research project. A formalized didactic program includes core lecture series and conferences as well as individualized conferences selected and based upon the appointee's field of study.

Due to NIH funding restrictions candidates must meet the following two criteria to be considered: hold a M.D., Ph.D. or equivalent degree AND have United States permanent resident status.

Qualifications: Must have a Ph.D., M.D., or equivalent doctoral degree in a field deemed relevant by the program. Research Fellow is appropriate for individuals who have completed no more than one prior postdoctoral fellowship, at Mayo Clinic or elsewhere.
