Position Summary: A postdoctoral position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Stephen J Russell, M.D., Ph.D., in the Department of Molecular Medicine, Mayo Clinic, Rochester, MN. We use a combination of techniques in molecular and cellular biology, virology, immunology and murine cancer models to engineer and test virus-based anti-cancer treatments. The candidate will work under the supervision of Dr. Autumn J Schulze, Ph.D. focused on developing new oncolytic picornavirus therapies with the intent for clinical translation. The specific project will focus on identifying host factors that influence the therapeutic efficacy of oncolytic Coxsackievirus A21 and Mengovirus, developing mechanisms of regulating these factors and evaluating the impact of combination therapies in vivo. Candidates with a Ph.D. in virology, molecular biology, immunology, cancer biology or a related field, with experience in molecular biology, cell culture and animal handling are encouraged to apply. Preference will be given to applicants that have completed their Ph.D. degree within the last two years and are highly motivated and passionate about biomedical research. Responsibilities: A Research Fellow at Mayo Clinic is a temporary position intended to provide training and education in research. Individuals will train in the research program of a Mayo Clinic principal investigator. Qualified individuals will demonstrate the potential for research as evidenced by their training and peer-reviewed publications and should become competitive for national research grants. Proof of English proficiency is required for J-1 Short-Term Scholars, Research Scholars, Professors, Specialists, and Student Interns sponsored by Mayo Clinic. 800146; J2WRTP

Qualifications: Must have a Ph.D., M.D., or equivalent doctoral degree in a field deemed relevant by the program. Research Fellow is appropriate for individuals who have completed no more than one prior postdoctoral fellowship, at Mayo Clinic or elsewhere. Additional Qualifications: A moderate level of computer skills and the ability to learn different software programs is required.
An understanding of, or prior experience with general laboratory procedures, including work in tissue culture is preferred.
Must possess good written and oral communication skills and the ability to be a team player.
Must be willing to work with animal models of cancer. Prior experience working with mice is highly beneficial.
Must be highly organized, detail-oriented and motivated.
