Job Description:
A Research Fellow at Mayo Clinic is a temporary position intended to provide training and education in research. Individuals will train in the research program of a Mayo Clinic principal investigator. Qualified individuals will demonstrate the potential for research as evidenced by their training and peer-reviewed publications and should become competitive for national research grants. 800146; J2WRTP
Basic Qualifications:
Must have a Ph.D., M.D., or equivalent doctoral degree in a field deemed relevant by the program. Research Fellow is appropriate for individuals who have completed no more than one prior postdoctoral fellowship, at Mayo Clinic or elsewhere. We are looking for a person to conduct single molecule fluorescence experiments using total internal reflection fluorescence (TIRF) microscopy on zebrafish embryos expressing photoactivatable GFP. Candidate will also conduct microfluidic, continuous flow, kinetics experiments on high value protein samples from biopsies or small quantity protein expression systems. Candidate needs familiarity with: fluorescence microscopy, prototyping and troubleshooting optical setups for laser excitation and low light level fluorescence detection in a microscope, and microfluidic fabrication. A second separate line of research involves electron microscope reconstruction of GFP tagged cardiac myosin structure using single particle analysis. Candidate needs familiarity with: metal replicate, negative staining, and freeze-fractured intact protein imaging with electron microcopy. For either track the candidate will also be familiar with protein biochemistry and quantitative data analysis. Any candidate will also be expected to write manuscripts reporting research findings, originate new, related, or follow-up research projects, and to originate/participate in grant proposal writing to support the lab.
