Job Description:
Research Fellow position available with the Department of Health Sciences Research Mayo Clinic and funded by the Center for Individualized Medicine. The candidate will contribute with his/her bioinformatics expertise to advancing translational genomics research sponsored by the Center. Mayo Clinic has recently started using genome-sequencing based testing to guide clinical decision making for patients with rare diseases and advanced cancers, and will expand these activities in 2013. The process of taking cutting edge research findings and translating these into changes in clinical practice is considered a top strategic priority by Mayo Clinic leadership.

A Research Fellow at Mayo Clinic is a temporary position intended to provide training and education in research. Individuals will train in the research program of a Mayo Clinic principal investigator. Qualified individuals will demonstrate the potential for research as evidenced by their training and peer-reviewed publications and should become competitive for national research grants.

Basic Qualifications:
Must have a Ph.D., M.D., or equivalent doctoral degree in a field deemed relevant by the program. Research Fellow is appropriate for individuals who have completed no more than one prior postdoctoral fellowship, at Mayo Clinic or elsewhere. Please attach the following required documents at the time of application:
  1. Current curriculum vitae and bibliography
  2. Three letters of recommendation, signed, on letterhead, describing:
    • Relationship to the applicant.
    • Past work/academic performance.
    • Work qualities/personal conduct.
    • Overall assessment of potential for success in research environment.
  3. Doctoral degree certification, if applicable:
    • Original or notarized copy of diploma or final transcript issued by school (English translation required).


Other Qualifications:
The candidate should have a PhD degree in bioinformatics, biology, biophysics or a related field and 2-4 years experience in research. He or she must have domain expertise in genomics, proteomics or metabolomics data analysis and data interpretation. The candidate should have published evidence of having independently and successfully led research projects, preferably in Next Generation Sequencing, and presented research findings at regional, national or international conferences. Flexibility, creativity and excellent communication skills are a must.
