Position Summary: The CENTER (Clinical Enteric Neuroscience Translational and Epidemiology Research) Program at Mayo Clinic, Rochester, MN seeks a post-doctoral fellow to join our team which seeks to understand the pathophysiology and developing novel approaches to treat common gastrointestinal motility and functional disorders, including diabetic enteropathy, gastroparesis, constipation, and fecal incontinence. Our work is driven by a desire to improve the lives of patients, whose symptoms and insights provide the impetus for our research. Currently, our NIH-supported projects in diabetic enteropathy focus on enteral nutrient sensitivity, understanding the bidirectional relationship between hyperglycemia and delayed gastric emptying, and the effects of improving glycemic control on gastric emptying. Likewise, we employ novel approaches to understand and manage defecatory disorders. Our studies in humans use a variety of techniques, including scintigraphy (GI transit), breath tests, anal, gastroduodenal and colonic manometry, barostat testing, and static and dynamic MR imaging. Through extensive collaborations, we also evaluate the GI microbiome and epigenetic markers. This position requires a medical degree (MBBS or MD), experience with research, familiarity with statistical analysis, and preferably ECFMG certification for foreign graduates. Responsibilities: A Research Fellow at Mayo Clinic is a temporary position intended to provide training and education in research. Individuals will train in the research program of a Mayo Clinic principal investigator. Qualified individuals will demonstrate the potential for research as evidenced by their training and peer-reviewed publications and should become competitive for national research grants. Proof of English proficiency is required for J-1 Short-Term Scholars, Research Scholars, Professors, Specialists, and Student Interns sponsored by Mayo Clinic. 800146; J2WRTP

Qualifications: Must have a M.D., M.B.B.S. or equivalent doctoral degree in a field deemed relevant by the program. Ph.D.'s must also have an M.D. or M.B.B.S. degree. Research Fellow is appropriate for individuals who have completed no more than one prior postdoctoral fellowship, at Mayo Clinic or elsewhere.
