Position Summary: A post-doctoral Research Fellow is being sought in the Department of Health Sciences Research to actively contribute and advance the research activities of the Care Experiences Program. The mission of the Care Experience Program within the Kern Center for the Science of Health Care Delivery (CSHCD) at the Mayo Clinic is to honor the voices of patients, families and caregivers by developing, testing, and sharing transformative strategies that optimize the care experience and patient outcomes. The candidate will be involved in Care Experiences projects, conduct research, compete for grants, and produce peer-reviewed publications.

Candidates are required to have advanced statistical, mixed methods, and/or qualitative methods skills. Experience collecting data from patients, family caregivers, and/or providers is preferred.

Responsibilities: A Research Fellow at Mayo Clinic is a temporary position intended to provide training and education in research. Individuals will train in the research program of a Mayo Clinic principal investigator. Qualified individuals will demonstrate the potential for research as evidenced by their training and peer-reviewed publications and should become competitive for national research grants. Proof of English proficiency is required for J-1 Short-Term Scholars, Research Scholars, Professors, Specialists, and Student Interns sponsored by Mayo Clinic. 800146; J2WRTP

Qualifications: Must have a Ph.D., M.D., or equivalent doctoral degree in a field deemed relevant by the program. Research Fellow is appropriate for individuals who have completed no more than one prior postdoctoral fellowship, at Mayo Clinic or elsewhere.   2. Three letters of recommendation, signed, on letterhead, describing:
    • Relationship to the applicant.
    • Past work/academic performance.
    • Work qualities/personal conduct.
    • Overall assessment of potential for success in research environment.
  3. Doctoral degree certification, if applicable:
    • Original or notarized copy of diploma or final transcript issued by school (English translation required).


Additional Qualifications: Candidates are required to have completed a doctoral degree in health services research, public health, or related social science field prior to the fellowship’s start date. Qualified individuals will demonstrate the ability to conduct independent research, collaborate with health care providers and colleagues from other disciplines, and will have peer-reviewed publications that reflect their work. They must demonstrate an interest in applied research that takes place in the health care encounter. Research that focuses on the following research is of particular interest: healthcare communications, patient/family caregiver reported outcomes, patient/family-centered care, behavior change, the application of health technology in the health care encounter, or implementation science.
