Job Description
Administers quality review program by evaluation of staff work against quality standards, identification of individual and unit educational needs, and development and delivery of relevant training. Communicates verbally and in written form about the quality of work performed by the individual coder. Reviews and maintains results, documents trends, and interprets performance data to recommend, develop, and deliver education and training programs at all Mayo sites. Oversees the development and maintenance of all lines of coding training curriculum. Works closely with technical support staff to maintain work unit databases.Demonstrates expert job knowledge and applies current billing and coding regulations, policies, and procedures along with effective decision-making and problem solving skills in the outpatient and inpatient coding process. Demonstrates excellent customer service. Contributes to a positive departmental image by exhibiting professionalism, adaptability, teamwork, and mutual respect. Practices continuous improvement. Extensively uses computers and is proficient in various administrative software products to support coding activities.

This position can be located on site in Arizona, Florida or Minnesota.

Basic Qualifications:
Associate's Degree in a healthcare related program with a minimum of one of the following credentials: RHIT or CCS or CPC, OR Bachelor's Degree in a healthcare related program with a minimum of one of the following credentials: RHIA or CCS or CPC, OR Bachelor's Degree in any field with a CCS credential. Minimum of five years CPT-4 surgical coding and/or ICD-9 diagnosis and procedure coding for outpatient and/or inpatient and/or MS-DRG assignment. Knowledge of and experience with the electronic medical record and billing systems required.

Other Qualifications:
Demonstrates expert job knowledge and applies current coding and billing regulations, policies, processes and procedures with effective decision-making and problem solving skills.
Along with :
Abstracts, interprets and reviews medical record documentation to assign appropriate coding accurate CPT-4 procedure and may assign ICD-9 diagnosis codes for procedures performed in the operating room as well as complex services performed in a procedure room (for example, Interventional Radiology). Assigns appropriate modifiers. Clarifies physician documentation as appropriate. Understands and applies medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, surgical technology, pharmacology, and disease processes. Demonstrates knowledge of sequencing diagnoses and procedure codes outlined in the AMA CPT instructions/guidelines, CPT Assistant, ICD-9-CM Official Coding Guidelines, CMS guidelines and other resources as applicable.
And/Or

Position eligible for telework. Incumbent would be required to be on campus up to 50% of the time.

Internal applicants are required to attach their three most recent performance appraisals.

Preferred location is Arizona or Florida.

License or Certification:
RHIT or RHIA or CCS or CPC credentials per above.

Compensation Detail: Education, experience, and tenure may be considered along with internal equity when job offers are extended. The minimum pay rate is $25.54 per hour.
