The Pharmacy Department utilizes a combined approach of automation, and centralized, decentralized services to facilitate the procurement, distribution, administration, and control of medications used within all patient care areas of the facility. Pharmacists provide patient focused care including clinical services, patient drug education and investigational drug monitoring. The Pharmacy serves patients of all ages.
The Informatics Pharmacist will work closely with information technology, pharmacy, and nursing informatics staff to support the current IDX and Pyxis technologies while preparing for conversion to Cerner electronic medical record system. This pharmacist is responsible for updating and maintenance of multiple pharmacy system databases, pharmacy system hardware maintenance, implementation of new pharmacy practice technologies, and to support pharmacy business applications. The pharmacist informaticist's skills needed include the ability to learn and understand systems capabilities and limitations for pharmacy related technologies and clinical software, to develop and maintain program requirements and medication management data bases, to assess inpatient medication-use systems and design for vulnerabilities to medication errors and to identify opportunities to implement patient safety strategies, to participate in the development, prioritization, and determination of core clinical decision-support systems, to interpret, assess and implement safe communication of medication orders in the CPOE environment, to communicate, negotiate and collaborate with colleagues across the Mayo Enterprise in the development of a shared electronic medical record, to translate inpatient pharmacy operations and workflow for patient care needs into an effective, efficient, and safe information technology and processing system, to provide leadership to facilitate safe medication use in standardization of shared data tables that serve multiple disciplines., to coordinate data collection on system performance issues, to support clinical and research activities and data retrieval, to participate in systems testing, and to collaborate with the team for problem identification and resolution.

This position is primarily a day shift position, Monday through Friday. This pharmacist is responsible for supporting and/or responding to off-shift patient care needs and system needs. Hospital pharmacy experience is required.

Qualifications: Graduate of an accredited College of Pharmacy with current license to practice pharmacy in the State of Arizona.
Hospital experience desirable.
