NP or PA - Hospital Internal Medicine Job

Description

The Hospital Internal Medicine Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant works collaboratively with the Hospitalist consultant to deliver medical care to hospitalized patients. The focus of the job includes providing primary care to complex medical patients and consulting on orthopedic surgical patients requiring preanesthesia evaluation and post operative management of medical comorbidities. A high level of autonomy is expected. The NP or PA provides comprehensive assessment, ordering, conducting and interpreting diagnostic tests, diagnosis, prescription of pharmacologic agents and treatments and non-pharmacologic therapies. The NP or PA will work with the care team in coordinating discharge planning and facilitate the patient's transfer of care back to the primary provider. The NP or PA will consult and make referrals to physicians and other members of the health care team as appropriate. There is a significant educational component to the position consisting of teaching and counseling individual patients and families as well as educating/mentoring allied health practitioners in training. The HIM NP or PA will be involved in research activities as well as contribute to system improvement/CQI efforts. Shared 24/7 coverage of units with additional shift compensation for evenings, nights, and weekends. (007197)

Department: Hospital Internal Medicine

Basic Qualifications: Masters prepared graduate of an accredited school of nursing and Nurse Practitioner program. Current Minnesota RN license (or eligible) and certification (or eligible to be certified) as a FNP, ANP, or ACNP (certification must be obtained within 6 months of employment date). Or graduate of accredited Physician Assistant program with current PA certification by NCCPA and registration as a PA by the Minnesota Board of Medical Practice (or eligible).

Other Qualifications: Must be eligible for DEA registration and billing privileges. Minimum of three years' experience in the care of medical and/or surgical inpatients preferred. Strong written and oral communication skills are required and must have demonstrated skill in working collaboratively with all members of the healthcare team. Salary: Salaried - Education, experience, and tenure may be considered along with internal equity when job offers are extended. The minimum salary every 2 weeks is approx $3076.80, based on a full-time position.
