Job Description
Codes outpatient encounters at the clinic level, non-complex laboratory, or radiology encounters according to guidelines and conventions in order to provide efficient and accurate billing and to maintain an accurate database. Codes outpatient encounters resulting in no continual backlogs. Monitors quality of coding by reviewing and sharing information received from other Medical Center departments resulting in 95% accuracy rate. Is responsible for maintaining a current knowledge of regulatory and third party payer updates by reading and applying knowledge resulting in quality coding. Is responsible for maintaining the unbilled cost amount according to benchmarks. Abstracts outpatient encounters at the clinic level in order to provide a current and effective database for information retrieval. Abstracts records to maintain established benchmarks. Monitors accuracy in abstracting through errors identified (internal and external) resulting in 95% accuracy rate. Communicates regularly with medical staff and provides ongoing documentation and coding feedback and education. Is responsible for reviewing and sharing information received by (internal and external) reviews. Monitor results/plans to achieve established benchmarks. Enters data into the billing system according to guidelines and system requirements. Monitors accuracy through errors identified (internal and external) resulting in 95% accuracy rate. Is responsible for maintaining a current knowledge of regulatory and third party payer requirements by reading and applying knowledge gained. Enters data resulting in no continual backlogs.
Basic Qualifications:
Experience : Two years coding experience preferred. Education: Coursework in coding at secondary level (technical college, online course) required. RHIT (Registered Health Information Technician) or RHIT eligible, RHIA (Registered Health Information Administrator) or RHIA eligible, CCS (Certified Coding Specialist), CCS-H (Certified Coding Specialist/Hospital), CPC (Certified Professional Coder) or CPC-H (Certified Professional Coder/ Hospital) credentials preferred.
License or Certification:
Licensure & Certification: Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), Certified Coding Specialist - Hospital (CCS-H), Certified Professional Coder (CPC), Certified Professional Coder - Hospital (CPC-H), Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) preferred.

Schedule Details: M-F, 8-4:30. This position is regional and could be located at any of the following sites: Fairmont, Mankato, New Prague, Springfield, St. James, or Waseca.
