Responsibilities: A Special Project Associate at Mayo Clinic is a temporary position intended to execute experimental studies in support of lab goals and grant commitments as designated by the Principal Investigator. Qualifications: The Patel Laboratory at the Mayo Clinic in Florida is accepting applications for a Research Technician / Special Project Associate position.

The laboratory uses basic and translational research approaches to explore pathogenic mechanisms and novel targeted therapies for liver cancers such as hepatocellular cancer and cholangiocarcinoma. A focus of the laboratory is the study and translational application of non-coding RNA, and extracellular vesicles.
Successful candidates will use a series of fundamental cancer models to address areas of translational research involving these areas. In addition, he or she will have the opportunity to become involved with all the steps of research being completed by the group and contribute to numerous publications, with the ultimate goal of translating their findings into applications that benefit patients.

Scientific methodologies and areas of focus include animal models, molecular biology, RNA function, cell biology, biochemistry, and genomics. The experience gained in the lab will useful for pursuing a career as a researcher or physician.

Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Biology, Molecular Biology or Biochemistry with at least 2 years of related full time experience.
  • Experience with mammalian cell culture, molecular biology and mouse husbandry.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Additional experience with IHC, Western blotting and qPCR is preferred.
  • The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, organized, and able to work independently as well as part of a team in an environment that requires the ability to rapidly adapt to change.
