Job Description:
A Research Fellow at Mayo Clinic is a temporary position intended to provide training and education in research. Individuals will train in the research program of a Mayo Clinic principal investigator. Qualified individuals will demonstrate the potential for research as evidenced by their training and peer-reviewed publications and should become competitive for national research grants. 800146; J2WRTP
Basic Qualifications:
Must have a Ph.D., M.D., or equivalent doctoral degree in one of the following areas: bioinformatics, computational biology, mathematics, and physics. Basic knowledge about human genetics and NextGen sequencing technologies, experiences or knowledge of data mining, machine learning algorithms, and multiple data integrations are required. Other Qualifications:
Outstanding written and oral communication skills. Experience with NextGen sequencing technology and data analysis tools preferred. Expertise in the use of informatics computing, scripting languages, and bioinformatics applications. Ability to prioritize, organize, and delegate various tasks on multiple, concurrent projects. Experiences and/or knowledge of the following are preferred but not required: NextGen Analysis Tools: BWA/Bowtie/Novoalign, GATK, KEGG, GO, Tophat, Cufflinks. NextGen sequencing platform: Illumina HiSeq, Languages: Java/C++, SQL, PERL/ruby/groovy. Databases: MS SQL Server, MySQL. HPC: Sun Grid Engine
