Director, Community Engaged Research Job

The Director is responsible for the general oversight and direction of the office. The Office supports clinical investigators in conducting community-engaged research studies including 1) study design and grant preparation, 2) protection of the rights and welfare of research participants, 3) assurance that principles of community-engaged research are respected, and 4) appropriate inclusion of all communities (including minority communities) in clinical research activities of Mayo Clinic. The Office is also responsible for promoting the appropriate inclusion of racial and ethnic minorities in clinical research at Mayo Clinic and promoting and participating in the design of health disparities research studies. The Director leads and manages the development of research initiatives with other medical centers to strengthen community-engaged research. The Director serves as lecturer and mentor for training programs in community-engaged research, cultural competence and health disparities research to strengthen the research capabilities of clinical investigators, support staff, fellows and medical students. The Director directly supervises the staff that performs outreach activities and other staff assigned to the office. The Director interacts with other Mayo Clinic sites to coordinate efforts across Mayo Clinic when appropriate. The Director also interacts with other CTSA key functions with activities relevant to community engagement such as Education Resources to promote collegiality and further OCER goals. The Director pursues extramural grant funding as appropriate to further the goals of this Office and participates in national community engagement activities within the CTSA Consortium and other venues.


Department: Center for Translational Science Activities (CTSA) Research

Basic Qualifications: Doctoral degree in public health, health services research, clinical epidemiology, medical sociology, cultural anthropology or other health related sciences field.

Other Qualifications: Must have experience in clinical research or health sciences research; familiarity with community organizations, diverse cultures, health disparities concepts, plus experience in developing collaborative work relationships with research institutions and community groups. Requires strong organizational, planning and leadership skills and solid team orientation, capable of effectively communicating with clinical investigators. Excellent grant writing and presentation skills are essential; in addition an ability to work collectively and in harmony with colleagues and community groups.
