Job Description
The Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM) delivers gynecologic and obstetric services to essentially healthy, female patients. This is an in-hospital service which consists of primarily an obstetric practice with some gynecology. The CNM will provide antepartum, intrapartum and postpartum services. Expectant mothers are seen by the CNM in the OB clinic during their pregnancy and the postnatal period. The CNM works to be with the woman and her family once active labor is established, providing continuous support. The CNM also provides full-scope healthcare for established nurse midwife patients from adolescence through the post-menopausal years. Well-woman care includes gynecological care and management of common healthcare problems. The nurse midwives get to know each woman and her family and encourage the patient to be involved in establishing a plan of care to meet her needs. In addition to working closely with each woman, the CNM works with a variety of specialists, including social workers, nurses, dietitians, physical therapists, advanced practice providers, patient educators, residents, and physicians. The CNM works within 3 different models to provide care to OB patients -- integrated practice care (IPC) model, where patients are shared between the physicians and midwives; Centering Pregnancy model providing group prenatal care; and the traditional midwife only model. The nurse midwife will be expected to assist in the teaching of medical students, residents, and other health care professionals. On-call Labor and Delivery services are shared among the Nurse Midwifery team.

Basic Qualifications:
Masters-prepared graduate of an accredited school of nursing and midwifery program approved by the American College of Nurse Midwives (ACNM).

Other Qualifications:
Preferred qualifications include: being an active member of the American College of Nurse Midwives (ACNM), experience in midwifery practice, labor and delivery experience, and demonstrated expertise in teaching. Interprets medication orders (written and verbal) to ensure proper entry into the computer system to create clear and accurate records on the patient Medication Administration Record (MAR) as evidenced by lack of errors. Understands the technological interface between the computer system and floor based electronic dispensing units (Pyxis) to ensure order entry is complete and accurate. Oversees all the activities of pharmacy technicians, fosters an environment of mutual respect and contributes to efficient, safe, and timely operations of the central pharmacy distribution area. Supervises and directs the daily activities of pharmacy technicians as evidenced by co-signatures on necessary department documents. Facilitates the dispensing of medication orders by ensuring that items are accurately labeled and prepared according to departmental policies and federal/state guidelines as evidenced by lack of errors. Accurately performs necessary calculations prior to dispensing medications as evidenced by lack of errors. Weighs, measures and prepares pharmacy compounded medications according to department standards and utilizes appropriate tools, equipment, and techniques as evidenced by lack of errors. Supervises and directs pharmacy technicians to ensure proper procedures for IV admixture preparation according to department standards and USP 797 guidelines. Supervises the distribution of pharmaceuticals to ensure timely delivery to patient care areas. Coordinates monthly floor inspections with assigned pharmacy technician, ensures that the technician completes and documents inspections, and identifies and replaces outdated or unusable medications as evidenced by signature on necessary forms. Sustains the hospital formulary by minimizing non-formulary procurements, utilizing authorized medication substitution policies, and promoting rational drug therapy selection. Assists in maintaining acceptable level of inventory of medications and supplies under proper conditions of storage and security. Ensures safe, appropriate, and cost-effective medication therapies for patients by monitoring drug levels and therapeutic drug regimens. Participates in detecting, reporting, documenting, and reviewing adverse drug events (ADE). Understands key principles in the detection of clinical intervention opportunities such as identifying sub-therapeutic or super-therapeutic responses to medications, under or over dosing of medications, allergic reactions, drug or dose modifications, and therapeutic appropriateness. Job Description
The Registered Nurse (RN) is a professional who provides leadership and direction to the patient care team. The RN performs patient age-specific physical, psychological and social assessments, formulates a nursing diagnosis and then develops a plan of care that includes individualizes treatment strategies. The RN manages, organizes and provides direct patient care incorporating clinical decision making and prioritization of activities. Education of patient, patient’ family and other health care team members is provided by the RN, incorporating health maintenance, disease process and discharge planning. In regards to triaging, the triage nurse (RN) carries out duties and responsibilities, utilizing the Emergency Scverity Index and is guided by the philosophy of the Department of Nursing and the policies of the Mayo Medical Center. The triage nurse interacts with patients and his/her family, assesses the presenting complaint accurately and expediently, intervenes with appropriate counseling and referrals and/or assigns the patient to the appropriate care ears within the Emergency department. The triage nurse reviews direct admission referrals, determining if instructions are appropriate, based on their assessment of the patient’s condition upon arrival in the Emergency department. The triage nurse initiates the patient’s/family’s entry into the health care delivery system of the medical complex with a caring attitude. Professionalism is evidenced in quality of care, leadership and in continued professional growth and development. Receives direction from the nurse manager of the Emergency Room department and or the nursing supervisor. Gives direction to Licensed Practical Nurses, Emergency Department Technician, Unit Health Coordinators and other ancillary medical center staff working in the department. Works cooperatively with physicians, other registered nurses and internal and external customers providing services to Mayo Clinic Health System – Red Cedar.

Job Description
The Nurse Clinician in the clinic setting is accountable for the coordination of nursing care and patient education for patients and their significant others, through use of the nursing process to assess, plan, implement, evaluate, and communicate all phases of nursing care across the continuum. The Nurse Clinician triages the acuity of patient needs, and provides for patient care accordingly, delegating tasks to other team members, as necessary. The Nurse Clinician role models professionalism while interacting with patients, families and co-workers. The Nurse Clinician provides leadership in various roles that include preceptor, team leader, resource/lead nurse, and committee member. The American Nurses Association (ANA) Scope and Standards of Practice and Code of Ethics for Nurses provide a basis for practice.
The Nurse Clinician in the Anticoagulation Service must be able to work independently and collaboratively to provide safe, accurate and clinically competent anticoagulation care to patients. The Nurse Clinician will collect patient data and will work off standardized protocol to achieve satisfactory patient outcome and INR limits within set guidelines. The Nurse Clinician will function as a strong team member and display professionalism while interacting with patients, families and co-workers. He/she will meet regulatory requirements for equipment use and will follow nursing and clinic polices procedures and standards.

Active Wisconsin RN license or ability to practice professional nursing in the state of Wisconsin, Current BLS Certification, Certification in Anticoagulation desirable.
