Job Description
Translates medical records, including X-ray and Pathology reports, summary letters and correspondence from patients, referring physicians and Mayo Clinic staff. Also translates special instructions, prep cards, booklets, marketing materials and other medical information. Serves a triage function for the International Services department, which includes reviewing outside patient records to determine the medical specialty to which the patient should be assigned. Also evaluates records submitted to determine which are relevant and need to be translated.This triage/review function is critical to department efficiency, patient satisfaction and saving physician time. A secondary function is serving as a medical interpreter between patients and staff (physicians and allied-health) during medical appointments. Also assists patients during registration, dismissal and hospital pre-admission process. Explains policies and procedures, appointment schedule and preparation for exams. Expedites patients' specialty appointments by developing contacts and rapport with physicians and allied-health staff. Serves as a liaison and patient advocate.

Basic Qualifications:
Master’s degree required in a medically related field and four years’ experience in a similar position. Must be fluent in written and spoken Spanish, including complex medical terminology. Must possess solid knowledge of cultural diversities, in particular those related to health care.

Job Description
This position will require direct patient, physician, nursing and other supporting staff face to face interactions. There will be high volume requests via computer orders, phone, email and fax from all levels of the Mayo Clinic staff. This position requires critical thinking skills with attention to detail. Having the ability to handle/prioritize tasks simultaneously is required. Due to a fast paced work environment you will be required to handle change on a daily basis. Activities include the ability to help identify possible trends in the processing of orders to increase scheduling efficiencies. Maintains regular contact with medical specialty areas (Physicians, Nurses, Secretaries and Administrators) as part of the patient care team to ensure quality scheduling as it relates to long term solutions. Time management and the ability to meet deadlines are a requirement of this position. Other job related duties as assigned by leadership.

Basic Qualifications:
High school diploma/GED required. One year of medical experience or 2-3 years of customer service required. Applicants without prior documented medical terminology must complete a class within 1 year of hire date. Experience with computers must be demonstrated in previous positions/college. Relocation is not available for this position.

Other Qualifications:
Position requires strong computer skills, communication skills (verbal/written) problem solving, continuous improvement and teaming skills. The ability to work in a team oriented atmosphere. Successfully demonstrate the ability to work effectively in a fast paced challenging work environment. Must be willing to modify individual work schedules/responsibilities in response to department or clinical needs. Ability to handle/prioritize tasks simultaneously. The ability to work directly with patients who exhibit different population specific needs.

Compensation Detail: Education, experience, and tenure may be considered along with internal equity when job offers are extended. The minimum pay rate is $13.06/hr.
