Mayo Clinic Health System (MCHS) Red Wing, MN seeks an NP/PA to join their Urgent Care team. The Urgent Care is co-located and fully integrated within the Emergency Department. RN's triage patients to be seen in the Urgent Care; NP/PAs see patients with sore throats, rashes, coughs or cuts and other mild illnesses/conditions.

Certification must be obtained within 6 months of employment date; Or graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program with current PA certification by the NCCPA and registration as a PA by the Minnesota State Board of Medical Practice. The NP/PA must be eligible for DEA registration.

Job Description
Mayo Clinic Health System (MCHS) in Red Wing, MN, seeks a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join their Orthopedic Surgery team. The NP/PA will work collaboratively with physicians, physician assistants, nurses and other allied health staff to provide all aspects of high quality patient care for orthopedic patients. The selected NP/PA will provide patient care in the outpatient (clinical) setting by performing pre-operative work up and post-operative care for a wide verity of upper and lower extremity orthopedic surgery patients. Some inpatient rounding may be required for patients needing to stay in the hospital after surgery.
Provisions of care in the position includes, but is not limited to, coordinating patient care management for a variety of orthopedic surgery indications, comprehensive physical assessments, ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests, performing diagnostic procedures and assisting in the operating room, and educating and counseling patients and their families.

The position is both clinical and surgical.

Job Description
Prepares sterile table for each procedure assuring required instruments are available to physicians including suture, blades, cautery suction, implants, medication and solution. Checks the indicators on the packages or on flashed instruments, as every patient is entitled to the same application of aseptic techniques. Count sponges, needles and instruments and verifies count with circulating nurse prior to surgery and again before incision is closed 100% of the time. Prepare sterile dressings. Assists in draping the surgical field to insure correct exposure of operative site with respect to each patient`s rights to privacy, dignity, safety and comfort. Correctly drapes the surgical area involved. Apples sterile techniques to prevent contamination of gown, gloves and drapes. Drapes microscope and other related equipment. Provides quiet environment for the surgical patient. Talks in a quiet manner with circulating nurse prior to induction of anesthesia or throughout the surgical procedure if patient is awake. Handles supplies and equipment quietly such as basin sets to prevent excessive noise. Assists with surgical duties as needed. Assists the surgeon as required when an assistant is not available. Properly identifies correct dosage of drugs to prevent reaction. Properly identifies surgical specimens to ensure correct diagnosis for proper patient post-op care. Cleans and prepares used instruments for terminal. Assists with terminal cleanup of instruments to prevent infection of operating room staff and other patients. Assists with the cleaning of operating room suite in preparation for next surgical procedure.

Basic Qualifications:
Experience : Operating Room Technician experience preferred. Education: Operating Room technicians certification required. Requires the ability to follow oral and written instructions.

Training: Basic life support (BLS).
